Midweek Photo fun - 10/3/2012

Nice shots of a double header.  I don't think I've ever even seen one yet.  For this week I have some good news.  The Dakota Southern Railroad hasn't hauled a train over their tracks in nearly a decade.  BNSF changed the way they billed for less than unit sized grain trains and that was not good for the DS.  This year, there was new elevator built which included a fertilizer depot. (These are called an "agronomy complex." )  DS totally rebuilt their line from Mitchell to Oacomo, SD, including new welded rail.  Last weekend they ran their first train, 75 cars of fertilizer, to the new Kimball elevator.  I got up a 5am Saturday to be there on time.  Track speed was held to 25 mph and they used BNSF run-through power.  Future runs will be using the much more interesting DS power.  Some shots below.  It may stun some of you, but I still know how to use a Nikon digital camera.

Very nice lead in with two Berks. Kent, good news on the DS and great shots.  You've got the eye for pictures so it doesn't matter what medium you use to record them.

Great variety of photos, folks! I am offline working at a wild land fire in White Bird, Idaho. No trains here, but I did see some old wooden trestles on the way from Lewiston about an hour north. Would that have been the Milwaukee Road?
