Great shots!  The Durango & Silverton and the Cumbres & Toltec are on my bucket list of railroads to visit.  If my son is still into trains when he turns 10 we will be heading out there!

from August 4, 2015, I knew that a "Z" was coming with KCS power so went to catch it and a couple more.  Dan

UP train ZMXDT, KCS 4502, rolls through MO Jct. at Dexter, MO. Seems that KCS power is seen on this train more often. 8/4/2015

Some Steam from the past: May 18, 1969. The Baltimore Chapter, NRHS runs a trip up the PRR to Perryville, then on the Port Road to Harrisburg. After lunch stop, on up to Rockville Bridge, across to Enola and back down the former Northern Central via York to Baltimore. Power was former Canadian Pacific 4-6-2's #1286 and 1238.  Stop for a photo run-by at one of the dams along the Port Road.

Great job everyone!  Thanks to jdevleerjr for starting the thread this week.  Here are some of the scenes around Steamtown from August 1.  Above, we see the Scranton Limited train pulling up alongside the sand dryer.  This huge concrete barrel is still about 1/3 full of sand.  It was built to hold 90 hopper carloads.

The Electric City Trolley headed out around noon for another trip under the wire to reach Montage Mountain in Moosic.

12:30 saw the Steamtown excursion leaving the Steamtown yard over So. Washington Ave.

3:00 pm saw the same train returning from Moscow, PA.  this is only a block away from the above photos.  The large building is the former DL&W headquarters and Scranton station.

Approaching the Mattes Street tower, the train also passes the Railway Express Agency building.  This parking lot was once a railroad yard and station for the electric interurban known as the Laurel Line.  It was officially the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley RR.

For Sunday, August 2, the train headed to Tobyhanna, PA, about 25 miles east of Scranton. C425 2461 was teamed up with sister unit 2452 for this trip.  The reason two locomotives were needed is due to the run-around track in Tobyhanna being occupied by freight cars.  With 2 units, they could re-position for the return to Scranton.

Tobyhanna historian Domenick Keating assembles the group to lead them to an ice house and 1905 boxcar to discuss the importance of harvesting ice in the 1800s and early 1900s to keep foods chilled in the households of Newark and New York City.  The above two photos were taken by Kenny Ganz.
