Happy New Year to all of you.  I hope that your celebration, or long winter's nap turned out just as you had planned it.  We begin another year of real world railroading right now, so if you have any trackside or onboard photos to share, this is the place to do so.

On Christmas Eve, I strolled around the Steamtown National Historic Site to take a few photos.  There has been snow on the ground ever since, but I have no pictures yet of "the white stuff."   Above is the boiler and frame of Boston & Maine no. 3713 in the Steamtown shop.  The drive wheels were recently shipped to the Strasburg Rail Road for some axle work and to smooth out portions where scoring had occurred.  The cab is being re-fabricated in Dalton, PA and the tender re-fabrication is taking place elsewhere.  Many parts have returned lately that were shipped out in 2016.  Big and small pieces all need attention before they can return to the hulk of the locomotive.

I also took this shot of Berlin Mills 2-4-2T no. 7, with Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 no. 4012 in the background framed by this white pine tree.  The holidays were a good time to check out the park.  It is now time to get back to work.  May your 2018 be successful.  Enjoy!

Please share any photos you have taken recently right here.  See you in a week.

I was going through some of my photos for 2017 and I found that I got a shot of the lead locomotive in the recent Amtrak cascades derailment in DuPont, WA, as it was being delivered. Being towed dead with another Charger and sandwiched between a P32BWH and (probably) a P42, they were passing through Tenino, WA on May 29, 2017.
The loco in the derailment is the closest Charger (the white one):
