Greetings! We are already a full week into the New Year, and I have new photos for you. All have been taken in 2020. All feature Scranton, PA , based railroad, the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad. The first few shots were taken January 2. It looks like the three units in the train are ready to leave town, but this is still a switching maneuver in getting the train together.
The morning light (around 8:00 AM) shows the famous Alco smoke, and the brilliant light shining off the Marketplace at Steamtown.
Backing down the line, the switching is to get the cars in a more logical order for delivery to the customers along the line.
January 6 saw a light dusting of snow in the area, and the Laurel Line local train is pushing carloads of plastic pellets across Cedar Ave in Scranton.
The road parallel to the tracks is Laurel Line Drive, named after the 25 mile long Laurel Line interurban railroad. The brick structure next to the train was at one time the freight station for this short railroad line. The passenger station once stood where the parking lot is now.
Today, I found these units idling away. This line-up of locomotives did not seem to move at all today. A slightly heavier snowfall over night led to this Christmas card look.
That is my contribution to the week. Please place any photos of real world railroading here. They don't need to be brand new. We would just like to see what your part of the railroad world has to offer.
