What happened to Midweek Photos?  Nobody caught anything?  Maybe we're too busy with duck season opening this weekend.  Anyway, I put a few photos out from the past week.  The Dakota & Iowa Railroad (DAIR) continues to run a s/b train Monday through Friday.  How convenient for me!    BNSF is still doing track work on the Canton Sub, which runs from Sioux Falls  to Canton SD.  The DAIR mainline takes off south from Canton and goes to Sioux City IA.  As bonus, there is a photo of the UP heading east into Kansas City KS at Linwood, KS.  The photo was taken by the infamous Grumpy, of "Grumpy's World."  That's me in the photo.    We might get together the next time I'm in Kansas City and go after something bigger.

Had to cut my previous post short--D&I just got a warrant to go south!  Anyway, here's another one fresh from the camera.  Dakota & Iowa Railroad going south through the elevator complex at Hudson, SD.  I don't think this one turned out too bad.

Now, off to bed.  I have to work tomorrow.

Everist quarry with no rail service for their rock.  So, they leased the tracks from Dell Rapids SD to Sioux City IA (which at that time were being kept open by the state of South Dakota.)  The company originally wanted to call it the "Everist Railroad," but FRA would not allow that.  Their freight cars are letered "LGEX", but the engines are "DAIR."  Alex Huff was hired to start the railroad up, which he did with about a dozen old MILW GP-7 and some very beat up open top hoppers and gondolas from the NYC.  Alex ran the railroad for a few years before buying the MILW operation based in Mitchell, SD, which he renamed the "Dakota Southern", DSRC.  He sold that a few years ago and retired.  Alex is one of South Dakota's living railroad legends and quite a charecter!
