Good morning, once again. Wednesday is here to pull you through the rest of the week with photos of railroading in the real world.
A rain sleet and snow storm that fell on Saturday night and Sunday led to this first time of 2016 to catch Steamtown's Baldwin no. 26 in the snow. With Sunday being the only day the train runs to the Nay Aug Gorge, I hiked to the Rie Rie Overlook of the Davis Trail in Scranton's Nay Aug Park.
I caught this photo of a lifetime. The snow clung to the trees and leaves in a perfect setting. The cold air held the smoke and steam in a nearly perfect plume.
Then I ran to the Doe Overlook to catch this image. A tour inside the coach paused on the bridge for a few minutes.
Now, time to back down to the roundhouse at Steamtown.
Just before the 2:30 departure, the fireman is cutting the coal to bring it forward. This is the last run of the day.
One of the locations passed on the trip is the former DL&W station in Scranton's downtown. Thanksgiving weekend is the last run for 2016.
That was my lucky break of the week. How did you do? Any great images of the trains in snow? or sun? How about thunderstorms? Weather can have a serious impact on railroading. If you have even an ordinary day to share, we'd love to see it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
