Good morning, once again.  Wednesday is here to pull you through the rest of the week with photos of railroading in the real world.

A rain sleet and snow storm that fell on Saturday night and Sunday led to this first time of 2016 to catch Steamtown's Baldwin no. 26 in the snow.  With Sunday being the only day the train runs to the Nay Aug Gorge, I hiked to the Rie Rie Overlook of the Davis Trail in Scranton's Nay Aug Park.

I caught this photo of a lifetime. The snow clung to the trees and leaves in a perfect setting.  The cold air held the smoke and steam in a nearly perfect plume.

Then I ran to the Doe Overlook to catch this image.  A tour inside the coach paused on the bridge for a few minutes.

Now, time to back down to the roundhouse at Steamtown.

Just before the 2:30 departure, the fireman is cutting the coal to bring it forward.  This is the last run of the day.

One of the locations passed on the trip is the former DL&W station in Scranton's downtown.  Thanksgiving weekend is the last run for 2016.

That was my lucky break of the week.  How did you do?  Any great images of the trains in snow?  or sun?  How about thunderstorms?  Weather can have a serious impact on railroading.  If you have even an ordinary day to share, we'd love to see it.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Tim has inspired me to get thru a lazy phase and post this one up.

The locomotives on the empty coal haul are 3211 and 311, a little play on numbers there!

This E726, at twilight, waiting for signal to do work in the interchange, the signal is at the east end

of the interchange. The conductor has tied down the necessary cars on E726, and the dispatcher will

light 'em up and the 3211 and 311 will pickup all the parked locomotives in the left of the photo.

They will do their work in the interchange, back down the main where the hoppers sit now, couple up

and the dispatcher will line 'em up for the main, and then light 'em up for Grafton.

My second visit to the Everett RR's steam operation was on Oct. 15th, 2016, when I photographed 2 of the 4 trips #11
handled between Hollidaysburg and Kladder (Monastery Rd.)

The theme was pumpkin patch trains, and the kids would disembark, claim their personal small pumpkin, pose for pics, then reload for return. The trip covered about 5 miles of the Everett's route, normal excursions go farther.

If you like operating steam, the Everett's operation is 1st class. Altoona, Horseshoe Curve, and even Sand Patch are all close by or within an hour drive.

Black Friday in the Hudson River Valley was bleak and cold, with lots of mist and drizzle. Still, I took the opportunity to take a brisk walk on the Walkway Over the Hudson. If you have never done that, it is the former New Haven Railroad bridge at Poughkeepsie, now made into a great hike/bike trail. I was hopeful I'd see trains, and was not disappointed on the Poughkeepsie side.

The bridge closes at 4:30 PM, and I didn't think I'd get lucky with CSX as I hustled back across as the Rangers began their task of advising people of the impending closure. But, as I neared the West end, a distant headlight appeared.  It would be a successful day with train photos on each end of the Walkway.
