Hello, one and all.  We are making an extra early posting for this week's Midweek Photos, which makes up for last week's missing thread.  I hope you have been well, and perhaps have caught sight of a train or two in the real world.  Here are some of mine:

Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA ran a number of Holiday Express trains this past weekend, running from Scranton to Santa's Station near the North Pole.  Lackawanna Railroad painted F3s  no. 663 and 664 led the train.

Magnetic decals on the train added to the festive nature of the trip...

... and so did the snow!  Nearly a foot of snow fell in Moscow (Santa's Station) on November 15.  9 inches fell in Scranton, but Moscow was the Winter Wonderland for this trip!

After the run-around at the stations, I took this photo of the train at the freight station.

Now, the train is back in Scranton.  I hand the thread over to you.  Have a great week!  I hope you had a great Thanksgiving last week.  Our year is winding down, and the Year in Review is coming up at the end of December.

These first two photos are from my trip from Vancouver back in August. They're not necessarily the best quality photos I've taken, but they show a slightly more human face than normal. Two crew members have a conversation as the sun sets on the front deck of ES44DC 7646, which is parked next to another NS train headed by C44-9W 9058. Of note is that that ES44DC has a black-painted cab front, a paint variation much more common on NS's Dash 9s.

I also managed to grab a few shots at Washington D.C. Union Station while traveling home for Thanksgiving. In these shots, several ACS-64s, a Phase III Heritage car and other equipment lay over at the station.

I might have a couple.  The BNSF "Holiday Express" came to my town after a seven year absence.  They loaded the train shortly before dark and headed north on a spur.  I found out how far they were going, and there was only one shot I really wanted.  I set up at the falls and got a decent shot of them heading out.  I went back to my car, pulled out a couple of big flash, set them up, and waited.  Sure enough, eventually they came back.  Train was pretty long with a nice assortment of passenger cars.  There was an engine at each end--clean ones!  Tomorrow my plan is to head west for the weekend.  Driving through a snow storm I hope to get in position to take a shot or two of a 2-6-6-2 steamer going by in the dark in falling snow.  If I don't slide off the road or something, it has the potential to be epic.  Not yet sure if my wife is going along on this one or not.
