Welcome to November, the Rodney Dangerfield of months.  It don't get no respect because it is squeezed between Halloween and Christmas. It is better known for Election Day than for Thanksgiving

To shake off some of the November Blues, Midweek Photos brings you some photos I took last November.

CN 2-8-2 3254 casts a steamy shadow on the Mall at Steamtown while running the Scranton Limited train.

Oddly enough, the sun shone more days than not last November.  So far, only one day has seen the sun in Scranton. Snow is expected for today.

What November trains do you have in your cache?  If I know OGR readers, they will all appreciate seeing what rail action takes place in your part of the country.  Please share.

I can contribute some from Sunday, November 4. At long last, Amtrak resumed Cardinal service and we were able to ride PRR coach Franklin Inn back to Washington, DC. Here's photos of the Franklin Inn in the yards at Huntington, #50 arriving and then backing down the siding to pick up the car, and some freight action seen on the way home.

ChooChooDenn--that's the best shot I've ever seen from you, and one of the best of the year here.  I've mostly been shooting my new Leica the past couple of weeks--love that camera!  Will post a few shots from it eventually.  Meanwhile, I also shot a few with the Nikon D5100.  I'll call this week "Shortlines!"  First is from a very, very rare little railroad, the SMRR (Sisseton & Milbank.)  It's up in extreme northeast South Dakota, partly on the Sioux Indian reservation.  This is their only engine, and they had just hauled about a dozen TCWR (Twin Cities & Western) hoppers to the little elevator in Sisseton.  This might be my ONLY photo of this railroad.  Second is from Baltic, South Dakota--the D&I (Dakota & Iowa) pulling a string of empty rock hoppers back to Dell Rapids.  This railroad generally mostly shuts down in winter when the quarry is closed.  This was probably my last chance to get this shot until next year because the river is likely to freeze over until March this weekend.  Final shot brings me sadness.  It's my favorite little shortline--the Nee Nee!  (NENE--Nebraska Northeastern.)  It goes through the "attic" of Nebraska from Sioux City to O'Neil, about 120 miles I think.  The area is like a time warp!  I don't think a single town it goes through has a stop light.  It services several grain elevators and at least two, maybe three big ethanol plants.  Friendly folks, great scenery, and interesting power.  And, it's all going away.  BNSF bought it effective first of the year and the old engines are going, along with half the people.  Track will be upgraded to welded rail (currently jointed & 10 mph.)  Sigh.
