Happy Holidays everyone. I am only online for a short time before going to two (uggghh) dinners on Christmas night. Thank you for checking out Midweek Photos throughout the years. Since I spent most of the past couple weeks preparing for Christmas at my house (celebrated last night) I have not taken my camera out to the real world for train chasing. So, these are some of my left-overs from the past several days. If you have a free moment to add your own pictures, please do.
This is the view of Scranton, PA outside my front bedroom window.
There isn't much of a skyline of the city, but of the handful of buildings getting your attention is the 1908 railroad station of the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad. Looking through the tree branches, you can see the sign of the Radisson Hotel chain. This building became a hotel in 1983.
Some night scenes from the final day of steam operation at Steamtown in Scranton, PA. Illinois Central no. 790 is our "dolled up" display train for the season.
Our operating steam engine for the past four seasons has been 0-6-0 no. 26, which celebrated 90 years since her creation by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a shop goat. The colorful spire seen in the background is the Scranton Times -WEJL radio tower decorated in lights.
Back lit and in motion, Baldwin no. 26 strolls into stall 14 of the roundhouse before a long winter's nap.
A day of snow squalls on December 18 brought this view of the Reading Lines locos at Steamtown. Long term guests are the Reading FP7s, no. 902 and 903. They sit next to 1947 built 4-8-4 no. 2124.
Next week is New Years Day, and I plan to begin the Year in Review post on that day. Sometime in January, depending on my ambition level, I plan a Decade in Review post. Time to dig deep into your digital files for the best of the 10s! Let the Roaring 20s begin! Happy New Year to one and all.
