Welcome to December and another installment of the Midweek Photos.  It seems there is a Santa Train, Polar Express or some other type of Christmas train running somewhere or another.  Scranton seems to be a nexus of these events, with Santa hopping off one train only to be found on another.

First view here is the Santa Trolley run by the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum.

It headed to Montage in Moosic, PA as Steamtown's Pocono Holiday Limited waited for the 11 AM departure time.  That is genuine steam heat you see coming out between the cars. These were taken Sunday Nov. 25.

On November 28, the Canadian Pacific Holiday train entertained the masses both in person, and trackside.

and then appeared on stage with the Claytones before the train headed north to Canada.

Steamtown was on the move again on December 1 with this steam powered Holiday Express.

Shortly before 3:00 PM on Dec 1, the Santa Train, part of the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority's "Christmas in a Small Town" program arrived in another part of Scranton's downtown.

The AAA baseball team the RailRiders, affiliated with the NY Yankees was there for fun too.

Santa was busy taking lists and getting wishes from the children nearby.

Believe it or not, that's not all I have this year!  More will come.

But in the meantime, Hannukah begins this weekend.  Whichever holiday you observe or participate in, have a wonderful time.

The thread is now yours to share whatever or whomever you captured trackside in the real world of railroading.  Please post some of your pictures here.

I see some nice shots with a Christmas feel above!  Well, looks like the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern (DME) might have gotten a lump of coal for Christmas this year.  The plan is to sell the entire western end off, to someone.  If they put it on eBay, I'll take a crack at it.  I've always wanted a big train set.  But seriously, it's all up in the air and no one knows where it will land.  This has happened before, of course.  I worked in Huron, SD today and hung out near their yard when I knocked off for the day.  It was my kind of light conditions--dark!  I talked to a few employees while we waited for an e/b to get a crew and head off into the night.  Everyone is worried about their jobs, of course.  While Huron is a relatively big town by Dakota standards, in the final check it's not very big at all.  I'm guessing it's about 10,000 or so people.  (Enough to make it our 6th largest town.)  DME is likely one of the biggest employers there.  If they were to actually close their shops and office, the town would spiral down even more.   About half a dozen years ago they were preparing for a boom as the DME attempted to get all the ducks in a row so they could extend their line from eastern Wyoming into the coal fields.  From the beginning of settlement in the 1880s, Dakota prairie towns owed their existence to the railroads that founded them.  One hundred and thirty years later this doesn't seem to have changed.

Below shot, DME train builds air pressure as the crew prepares to take it east from Huron.  It's pulling loaded hoppers full of grain and bentonite clay.
