Happy Midweek, everyone.  Last Friday, a couple friends and I decided to go rail-fanning where the trains run fast.  We do not know the Northeast Corridor terribly well, but decided to plant ourselves at New Brunswick, NJ.  There are a lot of NJ Transit trains on this line, plus a lot of Amtrak trains.  Most Amtrak trains do not stop here, so it was a good mix of action. Here we go. DSC_8356

Conveniently, there is a large parking garage near the station, so we started our photo taking there. The Pennsylvania RR station is a colonial style brick depot.

NJT runs trains of about 10 coaches each, and has their approx. 20-year old units leading the way.

Next came an Amtrak regional.  The ACS-64 locos are about 5 years old.

This NJT train is heading to Trenton, with the power pushing from the North end of the train.  This seemed to be normal practice, for the trains we saw.

Nice surprise for the day was seeing this freight.  Most likely a Conrail Shared Assets train with this GP40 leading the way.  This followed the above NJT train about 5 minutes after the passenger train cleared the station. Busy place.

Not all the trains had the power on the north end.  This New York bound NJT train is pushing cars into the station.

Now, down at platform level, we caught an Acela.  I didn't have the schedule, so it could have been heading to either New York or Boston.

A Keystone train from Harrisburg, PA to New York was next in the line.  The short (5-car) train, trailed by the Metroliner cab car were the give-aways on this train.

That is it for this week.  The trains kept coming, and coming, as they still are today.  At some point, we became hungry, and then went to get something to eat.  I hope some of you out there can add a few photos of trains you set out to find, or possibly had a chance encounter with.  Whichever you have, please post some of your pics here.  Thank you again for those who participate.

In mid-January I headed down from my home in MA to close down my hunting camp (located just inside PA on the NY state line south of Binghamton, NY) for the winter.

Whenever time permits on trips to our camp, I like to drive by the Norfolk Southern East Binghamton (Conklin) yard and the NS & NYS&W (Susquehanna) yard in downtown Binghamton.

On Saturday,  January 17th, I was trying to beat a snowstorm back home to New England, so I didn’t have much time.  I opted to bypass East Binghamton in favor of a quick drive by the downtown Binghamton joint yard.  I managed to grab a few shots with my iPhone just as the snow was starting to fall.

There were all kinds of parts and supplies lying around the NYS&W Binghamton yard.  Here are a bunch of wheel sets...77693C2C-54FF-4A6A-9DC8-BEF18DF5BD8C

this post would be nice for the current post about sanding towers. I always thought some models didn't look right. They look just like this one so I got schooled again.
