Here we go again!  Another week, another round of photos from the real world of railroading.  Welcome to Midweek Photos, a place to share and/or comment on trains we have captured in our cameras or other devices.  Let's get started.

My second day of the Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, MA meant making a stop at the Springfield Union Station.  The front of the building has been recently restored, but mainly for busses to take people in and out of town. The Amtrak end has not been touched.

The waiting room.  Now I am kicking myself for not taking photos when I last visited here 4 years ago.  But I am not sure this part was open to the public.

The city's history and importance in railroading is interpreted in many signs throughout the waiting room.

Trackside looks much like it has over the years.  One lone Amtrak train, which shuttles between New Haven and Springfield, sits at the boarding location.

I heard a horn, and caught this CSX stack train heading Eastbound.  I think it was going to Worcester, since that is mainly where the intermodal location is.

The first unit is an AC traction loco, and the second is DC.

The tail end of the shuttle train, I heard it was expected to leave about a half hour after I took this photo, which was around 10:00 AM.

I liked the effect of the fog while taking pictures at the station, and was rather happy to see some fog still at the Big E in W. Springfield so I could catch Edaville 11 under steam while still in the fog.

Whistling off.  That is what I have to offer this week.  How did your recent rail adventure go?  If you have any photos worth sharing, this is the place to do it.  Have a good week!

I've been distracted by lots of fun things going on this winter.  The twenty to thirty below temps created a couple of feet of ice on the lakes, creating the opportunity for the ice races near me.  Those are really fun!  It's basically flat track racing out on the lake.    We drive our trucks/SUVs out and park around the track and watch motorcycles and quads tear around the track at high speed.  I still managed to get out a couple of nights the past week and catch a couple of trains, of course.  The weather the past month has been sufficiently bad enough to entice me out.

1. Ice racing on Lake Brandt, SD

2. Open Class A, coming around the first curve

3. A Cowasaki 500cc taking a break between heats.  In the background you can see the trucks parked out on the lake.

4. An e/b Canadian Pacific manifest in Walnut Grove, MN.  Train was interchanged with RCPE at Tracy, MN.  Temp was 2 below with a 25 mph wind.  My kind of weather!  I had to wait two hours longer than I thought for the engines to switch out in Tracy and head back east.  Conductor said all the switches were frozen shut and it took a while to bust them out.

5. A n/b manifest on BNSF Marshall sub, nearing Pipestone, MN during a light snow storm.  (It was too cold to snow much.)

6.  N/B BNSF grain train near Jasper, MN

Kent in SD
