Looks like it's up to me to step in and get things rolling here. Fortunately, I have a few. Nothing spectacular, just good enough to consider posting. The ice on the rivers has melted, and ice-out on the lakes is near. The unpaved farm roads are closed to heavy truck traffic (grain, cattle) as they are thawing and soft. Snow is falling, but it melts in a day or two. Add all this together and you get.......spring. I'm always a little sad to see winter end, but every season has its opportunities. That's what I like about living on the Northern Plains--I don't have to travel to see a whole "new" world.
Train traffic has been scarce around me on the weekends for the past several months, but it's definitely picking up now. Farmers hauled a lot of grain to the elevators back while they had the chance when the roads were hard frozen . Fertilizer trains are hauling to the ag depots, and as the construction season warms up down south the quarry trains are hauling more rock. All of this bodes well for a foamer wanting to get a few shots.
Spring comes to Minnesota:
1. BNSF grain train n/b on Marshall sub, near Jasper MN.
2. BNSF manifest s/b on Marshall sub, near Ruthton MN. My favorite shot of the week.
3. BNSF grain train n/b on Marshall sub, near Florence MN. I've been taking shots at this trestle for the past 20 years but still haven't become tired of it. Few people shoot the trestle from the west side as it requires a short hike in.
4. Same as above, but a s/b manifest.
5. BNSF manifest s/b, Marshall sub, at Doon, IA. I need to try shooting this one at night. (Will talk to the owner first though!) The black tankers marked "AGP" likely contain corn syrup from Marshall, MN.
