Greetings! Wednesday has returned, and it is time to get another edition of Midweek Photos off the ground.
Monday found me in East Stroudsburg, PA meeting with some folks to discuss train excursion possibilities. The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western passenger station burned, but not to the ground, in 2009. The station was relocated to the other side of the tracks, and restored.
After the meeting, we took a tour of the tower, the last wooden DL&W tower standing.
Our tour guide showed us how the levers operated. They are color-coded based on their function, whether they are for switches, locks, signals or gates.
If you wonder why these levers were called "Johnson Bars", this is the reason. Johnson Signal Company created this type of system and the levers, and were taken over by another Signal company around 1890. The name stuck.
An Underwood typewriter and telegraph key remain in the tower... along with a cordless telephone.
The tower was for all the switches at the station area. East Stroudsburg served the Delaware Valley RR, the Pennsylvania RR and the DL&W.
I hand you the thread to add your own scenes of interesting items whether they are on the tracks or nearby. Have a great week, and a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
