LA's Union Station
Greetings from Williams, AZ!
On my western adventure, I am celebrating National Train Day in Los Angeles, and following the exploits of AT&SF no, 3751 and her colorful train of cars. These are iPhone photos. I promise to post more when I get back home next week.
Definitely join in on the fun of real world railroading this week on the Midweek thread.

From Steamtown.

Operating Steam for the day.

One of my favorites this old shay.  Several yard items had been moved, affording a better shot.

I have not done a shop tour since 2010.  The boiler for the Baldwin  #26 has been pressure tested, they are repairing a few leaks.  The smoke box is in place but not riveted.

The crown sheet installation on 3713 is progressing.

They hope to have Canadian National 3254 operational by memorial day.

I also purchased my Senior lifetime National Parks pass.

Some photos from this week:

3-way meet with westbound Providence & Worcester CT-1, eastbound Acela 2150 and westbound Shore Line east train at Pine Orchard, Branford, CT:

Amtrak work train in Madison, CT:

Valley 3025 entering Essex station on Saturday:

From today, Valley 2 with freshly outshopped Lehigh & New England gondola, which will be used in next week's Pete Lerro photo freight charter: (the gondola, not No. 2.)  3025 will be on the charter.

Enjoy,

Lee

Dagnabbit. The phone app version of this forum stinks. You can post, but not edit it if you accidentally press 'done' Anyway, the heritage of shay number 1 is from the Meadow River Lumber Co. in West Virginia. Also, to be technical about Steamtown's Boston & Maine 3713, her firebox does not have a crown sheet. The roof of it is composed of three thermic siphons and the steel connecting them. Water perking through the siphons keeps the water moving in and out of the boiler to keep steaming capacity at higher speeds.

Chased 3751 for a couple of days.  Problem was she ran many hours behind schedule so the planned video of her passing near my place turned out to be this:

night

We did then follow her doubleheaded with Grand Canyon Railway's #4960 to the Canyon and here is a shot at the head of Coconino Canyon:

Sorry about the poor photo quality but I was shooting only video and these are frames from that.
