Wednesday has arrived again.  Time for the Midweek Photo thread

DSC_4522

I had a number of close encounters with the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad recently.  The Alco road has all types of units in use recently, including former Central of New Jersey RS3 no. 1554 resting for the day on Thursday, May 30.

Four RS3s were on this train.  The other 3 have Delaware & Hudson heritage.  They were joined by two Lehigh Valley C420s. No. 414 was restored years ago and retains her "yellow jacket" markings.

The grain train would head to Pocono Summit on Friday.

On Saturday, June 1, we find the CNJ unit in the sun alongside a DL&W trackside shanty, and the Scranton Jersey Central freight station in the distance.

She is joined by Erie Lackawanna C425 and one of the D-L marked M420s.

Monday, June 3 I find a couple of D&H Rs3s, no 4068 and 4103 finishing up switching and storing cars by the DL&W station at the other end of Scranton's downtown.

Behind the Mattes St. tower is the former DL&W locomotive shop.

IMG_0344

Yesterday's sunshine took me to Moscow, PA where the Portland, PA-bound manifest train was pulling past the DL&W station there.  M420 2045 was in the lead.

The 4-axle power on the D-L is marked for the Genessee Valley family of railroad lines.

Second in the lineup, one of the two EL heritage locomotives, no. 2461.

And third is the other M420.  No. 2042.  This was a locomotive featured in the TV movie "Atomic Train" in 1999.

And off they go to the east end of the railroad at the Delaware River.

That is plenty for me to contribute for this week.  How did your chasing activity go?  Did you find any freights on the move?  Streetcars?  Amtrak or other passenger trains?  If it's about the real railroading world, we are definitely interested. Please post here.  And enjoy your week.

The Michigan Transit Museum had it's 1st train ride of the season on Sunday.  Here are 2 cars from that run as they cross over South Gratiot on the way to Joy Park.

They give 40 minute rides from 1 to 4 every Sunday though the summer.

This is the Southshore #11 leading the train.

USAF 4040

Former USAF 4040 provides the motive power.

I will be taking the kids for a ride on this train in the next week or two.

This past weekend I discovered the Catskill Mountain RR. This nice little short line actually runs on each end of the line: The Kingston Limited on the east end and the scenic train to the West. The line was bisected by flood and repairs are underway. The 45 minute trip on the Kingston, NY  section was perfect for a 4 year old, and Grandpa and Grandma as well.  Here #401 departs with the 3:00 PM train.

RS-1 #401 was built in 1950 for the Illinois Terminal Railway. It pulls an open car and former PRR caboose. The open car provided a cool ride on a hot day.

Thanks Rusty.  Though I work there, the other guys get the credit for how great she looks.  About all I did was some painting on a couple air system pipes underneath.

It's exciting to see her out and about finally.  She was a museum piece from the late 1920's to around 1987 when she was put in storage.  Restoration sort of started in 2000 when the roundhouse was completed, but didn't really get rolling until 2008.

Sorry guys! Forgot information! Me and the wife had the harley out on Saturday! Rode out to the Oklahoma Railroad museam! The 814 they bring out for when they have "day out with Thomas" was currently in the shop, they do have a train they run the first and third Saturday of the month pulling a collection of these coaches
I believe that some of them belonged to Penn Central? They all pulled by this ex army unit from ft sill

It's been cool (like down into the 40s) here, and it rains a lot.  That makes our local waterfall the best show in town.  Especially when they run a GP pulling a caboose over the trestle above the Big Sioux Falls!  Shot with an Agfa Trolix, a simple box camera made somewhere around 1937.

That photo is gorgeous!  I love how it's a current subject, but looks as if it's from another time!

Please tell me you've taken some shots of steam with that camera!

If only we had some clue as where this operation is...

It's rare that I come across images from a location I
haven't seen before - safe to assume some additional
information would benefit all here and at the "ERN
RAILWAY".

Sorry Mitch, forgot about that.  Detroit and Lima Northern #7 is at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI.  It's now our 3rd operational steam locomotive in addition to our 1873 0-6-4T Mason bogie "Torch Lake" (currently the oldest operating and oldest regularly operating steam locomotive in the country) and a 1932 Ford Rouge built 4-4-0 "Edison".

We also have a 1927 Plymouth gasoline 14(?) ton switcher and a 1942 USN GE 45/50 tonner (a 45 tonner the navy welded steel plates to to add an extra 5 tons)

Over a four-day weekend, Big Jim Video Productions attended two photo charters, and chased steam on the mainlines around Altoona, PA. However, the weekend started off with a Lerro Productions photo charter on the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad. This was a long-awaited charter, as it had to be cancelled once before - but this time, the charter operated as planned, and boy, was it a good one. 2-8-0 #40 was painted in her old Lancaster & Chester paint scheme, and pulled a mixed freight train through the countryside of Bucks County, PA - past farms, tractors, stations, over bridges and trestles along the line. The sun was in and out all day, so some shots are sunny, and some are cloudy...but a great time was had by all. This is only a short segment of clips - as the rest of my footage will be included in a planned New Hope & Ivyland dvd release.

She ran on some trips this past week, but I don't believe she's officially in service yet.  She's had several steam ups, and I believe there are a couple minor issues that need to be addressed still.  I'm not exactly sure when the official public runs will begin though.
