Midweek Photos 7/27/2016

I've been spending a lot of time along the former New York & Long Branch Railroad, now NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line in recent months. Here we have a selection of images from Red Bank and Aberdeen-Matawan:

Spent some time in Cape May, NJ last week. Grabbed some shots of the station and tracks, or what's left of them. So sad.

This is what the original station looked like when it was located one block closer to the ocean on Washington Street.

Hello  Everyone.

My Midweek Photo was just taken today in Bath, ME. Shows the former Maine Central Station built in 1941. Note the destroyer on the weathervane!  Reportedly donated by the nearby Bath Iron Works. Station today is the visitor center, and with Maine Eastern having ceased service, no longer sees passenger trains.

     The C424 #4213 is ex-Canadian Pacific. The GP38 #7706 was built for Penn Central. The Passenger cars are ex-Reading MU cars (Unlike the Silverliner Vs, their equalizer struts haven't cracked ).

     This is the northern-most (North referring to toward Broad Street Station) bridge on the WCRL. Our territory ends around a hundred yards north of here. The creek is the infamous Chester Creek which caused other local branch lines so much trouble during Hurricane Agnes.

In the historic department, here are two vintage photographs of Elverson station in Elverson, PA. The station is still standing though (Quite unfortunately for the future of the area's economy) this section of the Reading's Wilmington & Northern branch has been abandoned since the 80's.

I took this a couple months ago while I was working as the brakeman on the Corona Local. We were spotting lumber cars in Riverside, CA and left the cab on the siding while we went to pull the empties. The cool thing about this caboose is that it still doesn't say BNSF on it ANYWHERE.

Cool! I wonder how it has evaded the paint shop for this long?

Since my last few weeks of photos have been on RailCamp in late June, I am now playing catch-up with some more current photos.  On July 4, I had some time to chase Steamtown's Scranton Limited with steam engine no. 26, one of the Baldwin Locomotive Works 0-6-0s

The first photo is the outbound, and the second is the return trip. Since she was making very little smoke, they could both pass as moving forward. 

And the next day, July 5, I went to the same locations to shoot the same train, only led by F3 no. 664.  This unit dates back to 1948, a mere child compared to the Baldwin steamer from 1929.
