Wednesday is here!  No need to cheer, because the weekend is still a couple days away.

But! to maybe keep up a good mood, Midweek Photos welcomes you to share some of the colorful variety railroads have to offer.

In Scranton, PA, the Delaware-Lackawanna brought in a surprise last week.  This Delaware & Hudson RR caboose!

Sure, the paint is a bit faded, but the markings are authentic.  It will be put on display in Dickson City, north of Scranton, and used occasionally on D-L Freights.

Two of the more unusual pieces in the D-L roster are the Montreal Locomotive Works M420s.  One painted in the Genesee Valley corporate colors, and the other adapted from BC Rail's colors.

Have you taken photos of interesting freight trains or cabooses this week?  Actually any rail action is appreciated.  Please post some of your favorites here.

This past Saturday I went with some friends to the Steam Into History excursion line.  Unfortunately, the York 17 was down and being worked on, but I still got to see it, and we still had a nice ride behind their diesel.  Here are some of my pix:

One of St. Louis' home road, the Terminal Railroad of St. Louis got rid of all their switch engines and now have a group of (I believe all are ex UP) GP38's in a nice red and white scheme.

Here a transfer from St. Louis is nearing the TRRA's Madison, IL yard with the Gateway Arch across the Mississippi River shimmering in the background.

I'm just back from a two week vacation, to a place my wife picked and was sure there were no trains.  WRONG!  We went to Hawaii.  While I mostly wanted to photo the lava and the craters, I knew there was a very small RR museum there.  It had one engine--the only engine left on the island.  It's a small Plymouth switcher once used to switch cars at a sugar factory.  The Hawaii Consolidated Railroad once had several medium sized steamers and track around the southeast quarter of the island.  They hauled passengers, general freight, and sugar/fruit.  A number of large bridges were knocked out from a 1946 tsunami and the railroad never recovered.  I would have loved to have seen it in operation!  I am checking into visiting Cuba to see if they have any sugar cane railroads still running.  It's tricky to go there and visit, but it can be done.  I'm always up for an adventure!  In addition to the little switcher there is also a wooden caboose and a box car.  This is about all that's left of the Hawaii Consolidated Railway.
