Calling all around the world, are you ready for a brand new beat? Wednesday is here, and the time is right for Midweek Photos… How neat!
This past Saturday at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton saw a very large crowd waiting patiently. What was coming to the boarding platform is a train called the Heritage Explorer Train. An annual trip to a street festival in Carbondale, PA.
Power for the train this time is GP9 number 514. Here she comes to the platform.
Pulling to a stop.
The train looks like it's ready to go on the DL&W route, which Steamtown normally takes. But this train will need to get on the track parallel to the boarding track, and back onto the former Delaware & Hudson line.
Leaving the railroad yard, the train starts a downhill move to reach the old D&H. This particular track is called the Strawberry Hill connector. On the left is the DL&W's former Diamond Branch.
The trainman riding the pilot is preparing to flag a crossing at the next street. (Olive St in Scranton.)
On the opposite side of the bridge where I was standing, the train keeps going
… and going. This ends post number one for me. I will also post some returning to Scranton shots.
