Wow! That last week flew by! I kept thinking of places to go to shoot various trains, but the time slipped through my hands.

With another Midweek Photos upon us, here are my contributions.

Walking through the yard at Steamtown with my camera the other day, I figured it's time again for another shot of Union Pacific Big Boy no. 4012.

Track work on the east side of the roundhouse was finishing up, so I grabbed some shots of the Scranton Limited train departing from the south turntable lead.

This was a Saturday, so F3 no 664, owned by the Anthracite Railways Historical Society was power on the train. The other operating unit, Nickel Plate 514 was on excursion duty. 664 was intended to work with partner F3 663 this summer, but a mechanical failure in the 663 has her sidelined in the roundhouse awaiting part delivery and installation.

Engineer Tom Shore waiting for the 10;30 departure time hams it up for the camera.

Fireman Larry Scucci does the same on the other side.  The rails around Scranton will be more alive with color this weekend, as Steamtown's Railfest begins on Saturday, Aug 31 at 9 AM. Already, 3 Norfolk Southern rebuild units from Altoona are in the yard.  Canadian Pacific will be bringing North Shore RR equipment up from Northumberland Thursday, and Reading & Northern will bring their contributions on Friday.  If you have the time, go for the chase, stay for the Fest.

Also, time for your additions to the thread.  Have a great Labor Day holiday.  Enjoy the summer while we still have it.

My wife and I have just returned from the narrow gauge convention in Pasadena and I managed to find time to take the Gold Line to LA Union Station.

I got a kick out of this advertising as my wife and I are into both trains and horses!

On Saturday, August 24, 2013, the borough of Lansdale, PA hosted their third annual Founder's Day celebration in town. For the second straight year, the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad ran a special train from New Hope, PA to Lansdale, via SEPTA's Warminster Line and Lansdale/Doylestown Line (connecting at Glenside). This provided a rare opportunity to see the tourist line running trains at speeds of upwards of 40 mph and more on the SEPTA lines.

Plus, once in Lansdale, a series of short trips were made to Souderton via the Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad (a NH&I affiliate). The runs were made rather slowly, though, due to the grade crossings being set to go off at a very short distance to the road - the train had to slow to a crawl in order to set the crossing signals off before resuming. There was also some equipment on display at the Lansdale SEPTA station that you'll see as well. Nonetheless, a great time was had - and hopefully this is a trip that's repeated in the future! Enjoy!!
