Baby, I'm back!  After 2 weeks or so at the Carlton Complex fire in Winthrop, WA, I have returned. And so does the Midweek Photo thread   I hope all of you have been taking photos.  I had the chance to get some railroad stuff, but no trains, while in Spokane, WA.  Travel from West to east is rather difficult if you are under time constraints.  I left the fire on Saturday, and had to wait for Sunday to fly back to Scranton, PA.  So I took my phone to get a few shots of the area.

On the outskirts of Spokane sits this museum in the works.  The Inland Empire Chapter of the NRHS houses these relics and a few others at their new site.

Spokane is known in the railroad world for almost constant height trains, and the splitting point for Empire Builder riders to go to either Portland or Seattle.  Lesser known is Frank's Diner, near the elevated tracks.  It has incredible Victorian style decor.

The only train I caught in motion.  A double stack  (BNSF?) train rolling over one of the neat viaducts in town.  The train frequency is high, but you never know where to look.  Not many crossings to give you a heads up.

The old Northern Pacific Railroad station.  Now mainly a bus depot.

The NP medallion is missing from this bridge.

Now for you, my friends and others, to add to the experience.  It is a big world of railroading.  If you happened to catch some neat images, please share them with us here. Have a great week!

I worked a train north on UP's Desoto Sub the other day. An empty oil train with the usual BNSF power. Had an approach at Bismarck, MO and pulled up to the old Missouri Pacific depot and stopped, found out we were waiting for a southbound empty ballast train, so with some time, jumped off an snapped this image of the train in front of the depot at good time of the afternoon sun. The city now owns the former Mopac depot. It had been about 15 years or so since I last made a trip on this subdivision so got a pilot engineer to reacquaint me with the route. The Desoto Sub passes over the highest point in Missouri at Tip Top, about 17 miles south. The north 42 miles and the south 37 miles are relatively flat, but the middle 86 miles is constantly up and down the grades of eastern Missouri. The line see mostly northbound empty grain, steel and oil trains as well as numerous ballast trains to the pits at Gads Hill and Iron Mt. Amtrak's Texas Eagle also traverses the line in the middle of the night.

Amtrak #48, 2 hours late heading East into Cleveland through Berea.  The train included the Iowa-Pacific Caritas passenger car.  This car was built by Pullman in 1948 for the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad.  It was purchased by High Iron Travel in 1983 and turned into a luxury passenger car that supposedly rivals some cruise ship cabins with amenities.

NS 9631 with UP in consists hauls a long intermodal train westbound through Berea.
