Great photos of Moscow and Strasburg!  I remember visiting the Moscow station once when Steamtown first started. Nice to see Strasburg and Amtrak meet photos.

Here's 4 from South Station, Boston, last Wednesday morning, 7/31. We slept aboard private car Mount Vernon, and saw this Acela, the overnight train arrive from Newport News and Washington, DC, and this neat MBTA coach honoring Massachusetts' Fallen Heroes.  Photos from the trip NY-Boston are posted elsewhere, "From the (rear) window of a train."

I've been taking a few train photos since I got back from Hawaii, but I had to wait to get them back.  (They were all shot on FP4 film!)  While summer is not my favorite time of year by any stretch, still there are some opportunities.  First shot, s/b hopper train (coal) emerges from the woods south of Sioux Center, IA.  Second shot, s/b oil shuttle waits in the hole south of Doon, IA.  Third, s/b ethanol tankers at airport, IA (Marshall Sub.)  Fourth shot, w/b tanker train (ethanol) swings west through the wye at Canton, SD.  Just ten years ago three of these trains would have existed; now they are the second most common trains seen (first are still grain shuttles.)  All shots made with my WW2 vintage Leica IIIc, with vintage Leica lenses.  I LOVE this little camera!

Going through some old photos tonight and found these prints from 1972 when #2102 pulled a rail fan trip from Baltimore to Hagerstown, Md. and back.  It snowed when we got to Hagerstown, which makes a nice contrast against the black metal.  The photo runby was west of Greenmount, Md.  I had to scan the photos because the negatives were destroyed, and I tried to enhance them as much as I could.  They are printed on that "beaded surface" paper that was supposed to reduce fingerprinting.  Sorry they're not any clearer, but I thought you might enjoy looking at them.  Fans could just about wander anywhere they wanted back in those days.  If you got hurt, it was your own fault.  If you got in the way, you got yelled at.  Other than D&RGW narrow gauge in the Rockies in the early 60's, this was the first train trip for me behind a steam locomotive.  My traveling companion was the late George Wireman, conductor on the Walkersville Southern RR.  

Wow great photos of the 2102...that must have been some trip.  Thank you.
