Hello, once again, and welcome to another edition of Midweek Photos. Pictures of the real world of railroading. Sometimes, we find it spectacular. While other times, it seems to be the same old trains we keep encountering.7275C167-D9CE-4CEB-A6C7-ADEBA073F834

one unusual occurrence the other day was finding this group of diesels on the Delaware-Lackawanna railroad’s Carbondale Branch. The group of Alcos was led by C420 no 411, still in it’s Lehigh Valley RR yellow jacket colors.

This was on Sunday, September 6, and they seemed unusually busy on their Pocono Main Line. This group of diesels must have been parked on the Branch to keep out of the way of other trains.

Another old Alco that has been off my radar for a while is this RS11, no. 1804. High hood Alcos are pretty rare on this line. I found her in excellent sunshine.
That is what I have to offer for the week. I hope to catch something interesting for next week’s thread. See you soon.

In keeping with the theme of the same old and something different, here's something that for me is lsightly different.

On August 7th, I wandered around McKees Rocks in a vain search for a Pittsburgh & Ohio Central crew I heard on the scanner. I eventually camped out near where the POHC line to Neville Island and the CSX interchange passes over the mainline (a spot that has become more popular over the past month or so). Here, two CSX ES44s lead a eastbound manifest toward downtown Pittsburgh.

The last time I was in McKees Rocks was 2012, and a fair amount has changed since then. The POHC bridge is the same, but CSX squeezed in a third track (the one with the dismount sign) between the road and gully for their new intermodal terminal.

Another thing that has sort of changed, but also stayed somewhat since 2012 the same is B&LE 643's condition. The locomotive's tender was moved to its new owner, the Age of Steam roundhouse, earlier this year. The smokebox front and other jacketing has been removed, and the trees that obscured the lot have been cut down.

Stopped by Steamtown a couple of days ago to pick up something from the Gift Shop and took a couple of pics from the parking lot...

First up, a pair of, I believe, RS-3’s. Can’t tell on the Reading, but it looks like the D&L runs long end forward.

Next, a beautiful boxcar!!!

Another bit of Reading...

And finally, in light of the apparent popularity of the new Lionel tank engine, I would hope that Steamtown would consider, at least, a cosmetic renovation of this interesting Canadian National 4-6-4T...
