It appears that Midweek Photos has not appeared for this week yet.  Has Tim's wife grounded him for the week?  Has he become locked in a Walmart bathroom? I guess I'll give it a shot until he reappears.  Despite the bugs, the heavy rain, and being busy with "wife" projects, I have managed to get out a few times and chase a train or two.  Due to a scarcity of darkness this time of year, all of my photos from the past few weeks have been done in daylight.

1.  D&I Train crossing the Big Sioux River near Hawarden, IA.  The river serves as the border.  My original plan was to paddle out and anchor my kayak in the middle to take the shot, but the heavy rains the previous night had the river running fast and high.  That would have made kayaking pretty dicey.  The foamer navy stayed in port!  That photo will have to wait until another time, when the river is better behaved.

2.  D&I train passing the tied down n/b train at the Chatsworth, IA siding.  A storm was moving off to the east.  Engineer on this trip was Deanna.

3. The train enters the Akron s-curves in waning light.  These used to be much more heavily forested, but a massive ice storm a few years ago toppled dozens of trees.  It was an impenetrable mess!  It too a couple of bulldozers several days to clear it all out.  It's still one of my favorite places.  If nothing else, the sound of those heavy freight cars going through those tight curves is pretty awesome.  I am careful to not be down in the cut when they go through, though.
