Already, this year has entered its second month. While the time is flying by for most of us, the railroad keeps rolling along. Just like Old Man River.
On with the photos. I thought I would get some spectacular photos of trains when I went to Springfield, MA for the Amherst Railway Society's train show at the Big E. The trains had other ideas. As busy as the area was, most of the trains passed while I was driving with no place to pull over. Other drivers frown upon us stopping midway in the street for such things.
Even now, you can see traces of the New York Central in the bridge by the Amtrak station.
On Saturday evening, January 30, I caught this Pan Am Railways train leaving the East Deerfield yard on its way to Mechanicville.
Three Norfolk Southern units helped the Pan Am unit to haul the long train.
Nifty Pan Am airline logo on the boxcar.
The next place I caught the train was in Greenfield, MA. There is a neat little park by the tracks where the Boston & Maine station once stood. MBTA has a depot a few yards away from this spot.
A band shelter of sorts by the tracks in the park.
Here comes the train. Check out the three red lights off to the right of the train lights. They are the signals for the railroad.
A wheelchair ramp to the band shell allows this elevated view of the train. 609 is an SD40-2, originally from the Milwaukee Road.
I liked this blurry view of passing tank cars with the shadow of the bell on the side.
Well, that was what I caught this week. How did you do? Daytime or night time, the trains are always exciting. Add any photos that you would like to the roster for this week's thread. See you next week.
