Sunday evening, June 3, I was at the super 8 in Themopolis wy. when I spotted an estimated 30 flats with military tanks on board heading down river.  All in camo.  Had to come from Casper and heading to Laurel or Billings.  From there where?  Anybody else see this movement to the east or South before then?    Looked just like the guy's video over on the 3 rail forum.

i saw a Union Pacific hauling a load of flats, looked like bradly's on it a couple months ago, looked like it was going east, i was headed on I-40 east in oklahoma, the tracks at one point go under the overpass and head east... if i was by myself and not with my wife i would of tried to get some pictures of it... they are always a good sight to see

When I was with the 4th Inf. Div. at Ft. Carson, CO in the 90's, we would send all of our vehicles by rail to the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, Ca. when we would do major desert training exercises. I believe there was also a major training center in Idaho back then. I imagine rail is still the most common method for transporting large military equipment over longer distances within the States.

Several years ago I think there was a news (CBS Sunday Morning?) story of a place in Alabama where the Defense Dept. sent much of its IRAQ and Afghanistan armor equipment to be scrapped or salvaged.  It was amazing to see how much stuff was sent to this place.  At a glance you might question what was wrong with that seemingly intact piece of equipment?  However, most were sent there due to high cost maintenance issues and in combat wear and tear.

Keystone, your thinking of the Anniston armory.  Its a HUGE facility where they send the jet powered M1A1 Abrams and other heavy equipment to be rebuilt after so many hours of service or problems.  The cost of rebuilding one vs buying a new one is a LOT!  And just in case you guys didn't know about this.... go to MAPS.GOOGLE.COM and click the satellite view.... you can look at the Anniston Depot, large UP yard in Little rock..... my house...... I can spend HOURS on that site just "flying" around looking at everything!
