I've only ever seen one military train in person. That was at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho about 20 years ago. It was all Army. I would guess that most military trains would be single service as the various branches would not be going to the same location. I think an Air Force train is highly unlikely due to the fact the AF has a huge fleet of cargo planes.

When they loaded the Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF) ships at the local port, we only saw dedicated trains from Marine Corps bases.  Its understandable as they would want to keep a unit's equipment together.  However, the MPF ships carry supplies and equipment for all services.

Does anyone know if multiple services(Army, Navy, Marines Etc) transport stuff on one train? Would like to know, contemplating on expanding my modern train to more branches of service.

Thanks

Maybe not helpful, but I watched a train going to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in N.J. with various armored vehicles for the Army at Dix, and with rotors on flat cars for, I assume, the USMC Cobra squadron that is based at McGuire.

I was with 2/42 FA -Lance '81-'84.
I was stationed at Crailsheim...but most of my time in the field, sleep in the mud and eat C-Rations.
I complained about it then, but now, I would go back and relive all of that in a heartbeat.
