I recently had a little mishap with my S-3, and the bell yoke is bent. I contacted Lionel and I see they have a good number of parts, including the complete bell assembly. I noted that the replacement must get screwed onto something in the back of the smokebox front, how does one do this? Thanks!

You  will have to see if you can swing the smoke box open and get access to the top of the boiler, if not you are going to have to remove the boiler, this is not an easy task.

If you are in the Michigan area I will put it on for free for ya....

my email is jwcrowley@peoplepc.com even if you need someone to talk you through it.

Otherwise I would take it to you closest repair shop that you trust.

Good luck and I hope you get her back into shape.

Jeff B.,  if all you did was bend the yoke on the bell have I got news for you the bell and yoke are removable from the part that is attached to the boiler face! If you look carefully at it if memory serves me right on the left with a magnifying glass or glasses you will see it has an area open once you get that to release the other side will slide out and is ready for the new bell and yoke assembly.

hope this helps you and anyone else I now avoid that bell with my #10 hands!

Thanks for that bit of good news. Actually yes, the yoke is bent, so I will see what I can see from your reply, and check the parts lists to see if I can figure it all out. Thanks!!

I guess I may have my answer. I mistakingly called the cradle, the yoke. It is the bottom portion, or cradle that is bent, somewhat squished downward, even though the bell swings for the most part.
