Recently purchased a Lionel Bucyrus Erie PS-2 Covered Hopper #1118 6-85096 where some of the wording is missing from one side of the hopper. Is this a common occurrence on this hopper?
I plan on running the hopper as I don’t believe there would be any increase in value due to the mistake. Just interested to know how common of an occurrence this is with today's manufacturing methods. See photos.

Something missing makes it a factory error. Possibly one of a kind. It does not happen very much now a days. I would call it rare. ........Paul

Yes, these cars are pretty nice looking. That's what caught my attention when I seen them on display and the car being from the Pittsburgh area was like icing on the cake. They come in two road numbers and I might get the other one.
If you 'collect' any factory error is a good thing. Sit it on the shelf and leave it alone. When a collector visits and notices the error you can probably trade up for something you want to just run. In any event it is a special car and you will decrease its value by running it.
I will give you an example of choices. When the MTH warehouse was cleared of many of the prototypes one gentleman wound up with several unpainted premier aluminum passenger sets. In talking with him he allowed as he had used them as many would to paint his favorite road names.
He put this set on ebay unpainted and I purchased it. My intention is to keep it as purchased because it is an unusual piece from MTH. Does it have value? I don't really care because it is something really unusual.
Your car is unusual. Regardless of value it is a part of the reason we all have passion for our trains. If it means nothing to you, pass it on to someone who will care that it is special
