Folks,

I was wondering if anyone knew the status of the Misty Mountain Railroad located in Blairesville, GA.    Charles, the owner/creator passed away a couple of years ago so it was shut down for a while.  But then I remember the family opening it.

I just looked them up online as I wanted to visit the layout again and I see they are permanently closed.   Does anyone happen to know what is happening to the layout?   For those who have not ever seen it, it was incredible in scope and detail.

I believe OGR made a new HD video of the layout a while back.

Thanks

Ed

I had heard last year that Charles’ family planned to dismantle the layout and sell everything that was useable or salvageable.  That was last June.  I’ve not heard anything since nor have I read about any of the rolling stock or custom buildings going on sale.

Given how well known Misty Mountain was; I have to believe if an auction house or Trainz had obtained everything they would publicly link the items to the layout when they began to sell things off.

Curt,

I am sorry to hear that.  After Charles passed I had hoped that either the family would continue on with it or it would be sold to some other group to run it.

But I can imagine the complications to run and maintain the layout.  Who knows what other complications the family had to deal with.

Sure glad I got to see it a number of times.   The best part was the intro by Charles before the tour.   He was always interesting and entertaining.

Thanks for the update.
