I am interested if anyone knows if there is a ready made (or model) airport available in o scale,

sofar i have only seen the hepa model (500 scale) and the gemini model (400 scale)

While these models look nice the scale seems to be way off with my o-scale setup.

I hope that somone knows if there is a airport  that would be more realistic looking bij it's size or how to make one.

Thank you very much in advance from hassie

Building an airport from scratch is not difficult once you know what you want to model. The limitation of the space available will be the biggest factor in determining the final result. Here are some questions to answer:

1. How many runways do you want? What surface will your runway(s) be made of? (asphalt, grass) Will your runway have markings such as runway numbers, and edge markings? Will it appear new or used? Will your runway have edge lights and approach lights?

2. Will you have a taxiway to the runway? Will it have taxiway lines? Will the taxiway have lights? (Some small airports do not have taxiways. Pilots taxi from the ramp onto the runway and then turn around at the end for departure.)

3. How big will your ramp be? Will it be a large ramp for air carriers or a smaller ramp for general aviation? Will your ramp have taxi lines and marked parking lines?

4. Will you have a control tower? (I have worked in all shapes and sizes of control towers. There are endless possibilities.)

5. Will you have hangars on your airport?

6. How big will your terminal be? Will it be big for commercial airliners or small for GA purposes?

7. Don't forget the details! There are wind socks, navigation aides, fuel trucks, and vegetation around the airfield.

Here is your homework assignment: Measure the area in which you want to place the airport. Reply with the measurement and answers to the above questions.

Lionel also made a hanger kit. Both Lionel and MTH made control towers that can be used as well as radar towers and rotary beacons. Lionel has made the Red baron, WWll, and other towers with circling airplanes. There are both plastic and balsa airplane models available in 1:48 scale. Plus there have been die cast airplanes by various manufacturers.

Runways can be made from painted wood boards with holes drilled for mini **** lights. To save room, you can paint the runways on the backdrop. There are several figure sets that can be used for mechanics, piolets, military etc.. Hot air ballons, and air ships are available on ebay. K-Line also made a rotary beacon and I believe Ready Made Toys by AristoCraft has them now.

Lionel has Cesna planes on a flatcar and other space/military cars and accessories.

ChessieFan72 had a great list of factors to consider.
