This image is from the Chicago Tribune archives, and shows people viewing the model railroad during the first summer of the Chicago Railroad Fair. The display was sponsored by some Eastern railroads. The photo is dated July 28, 1948. At first glance I thought this was a 2-rail layout, but it appears to be outside 3rd rail. This is the only photo of this layout that I recall seeing.
