I never thought a commercial could capture the feeling I have for my trains as they relate to my Grandfather. I'm in awe! I just showed it to my wife, and said "you ask me all the time why I collect trains, this video explains the connection of my trains to my Grandfather's memory". As a note, my Grandfather was an engineer for Jersey Central Lines and sometimes ran down to Bay Head on the New York & Long Branch RR. At 67, I barely remember getting cab rides in steam but remember well riding in Trainmasters.

I just posted the video in the original post above (OP).

I like when you can see it without leaving this site. Please thank Cliff!

Engineer-Joe, you and everyone else are welcome. I can't stop watching this video after I saw it on the Marklin Users-Net web site a few days ago. I am just mezmorized by it's message and POWERFUL memories that are invoked by it especially of the grandfather/grandson relationship. I was fortunute to run both both Lionel and Marklin trains as a young boy. My favorite sound in the whole wide world is that of the Lionel conventional steam whistle my dad would set up every Christmas. This video reminds me of my own grandfather who bought me the below Marklin engine which I still posses to this day. He took me to the I. Magnin Department store in Downtown San Francisco to buy it. That day is etched in my memory for eternity.  I feel I have the best of both worlds; Lionel and Marklin. Because of trains, in our hearts we are all still little boys and that is good thing which few people will ever understand or experience.Gift from my grandfather

Here is a nice article on why the Marklin Train comercial was so effective at tugging at our hear strings.

The below link takes you to the Marklin page and how the commercial was made.  Scroll to the bottom of the page. Unfortunately the video is only in German and lacks subtitles.

I can't stop watching this commercial!  Simply put, it's one that conveys the wonder and generational bonding that trains can have to those who are new to the hobby, as well as remind those who have been in the hobby of how it gets passed down.

I've inherited a wonderful Marklin collection from my father (including one of the more expensive double-ended electric locos that Nicholas Smith himself gave my dad), which joins my Marklin (which comprises 1970's and 1980's HO).

When I have out any of the Marklin, mostly one wonderful set from 1959, which includes the original transformer, seeing it run always reminds me of my dad.  This will be the first Christmas without him, and this ad just hits quite an emotional note for me.

Amazing, simply amazing.

Maybe, just maybe if the big 3 would produce an ad for their product around this time of year, I'm sure a stimulation in Model trains would also increase in sales for their product. Let kids and adults know that you have a product out there that they see daily in real life moving freight and people on tracks, and I'm sure you will stimulate their interest.

As a small example one of the WalMarts here, 4 days ago had a large display of a train sets in their biggest traffic aisle and yesterday they were all sold out. Must have been at least 40 to 50 sets.
