Modeling an O scale version of the KRL 600471 8-axle flatcar
The prototype for this car is a 60 foot 8-axle flatcar with a load rating of 336,700 pounds. The deck length is 48 feet. A KRL specification sheet is attached. This car is very similar to KRL 42100 which has a 42 foot deck. Prototype photos are shown.
The O scale model has 4 pair of 2-axle roller bearing trucks. The truck bolsters on the model are articulated to allow operation on very small radius curves.

This KRL 600471 is a very short flatcar. The deck is only 42 feet.
However see the custom built O scale 16-axle flatcar in the attachment. It uses 8 pair of 2-axle roller bearing trucks. The truck bolsters are articulated so that the car can operate on small radius curves with ease. As a result the trucks are allowed to swing side to side.
This 16-axle O scale car has a scale wheelbase of 86-1/2 feet and an overall length of 92-1/2 feet. The deck is 66 feet in length.
