I am looking for a modern engine facility/repair or shed to fit my needs and have looked everywhere that I could and cant find an option. I dont like the menards sheds they are too small and the other company Model Structures Inc has about a year wait time on something kind of close. Any ideas on where to get something? Ive looked into the Korber kits but they are also really not what im looking for.
Here is an idea of what I want. Bluffs yard Iowa.

I know you said you don't like Menards. But I have 2 of them sitting side by side on my layout, my plan it to make one roof structure to cover both as one building. I will turn out something like in your picture!

I already tried that and didn't like the outcome.
What I was thinking was to give it one roof over both, not just the 2 pushed together and 2 peaks. Then just a window or a sliding service door in the middle on the upper area.
Not sure if this works. I have an MTH dual engine shed available. It looks like this one. One of the back doors is broken off its hinges.

Pecos River had a T-rail modern engine house that had rollup doors. Now that Mr. Muffin has the tooling, I’m not sure if he’s released the kit again but he certainly would have all the modular parts to pull it off.

That’s it. It was originally Pecos River, I think Rich bought the line when he owned Korber. There’s multiple heights of those modular walls, so you can add side bumpouts or add stalls, pretty much at will.

Boilermaker is right on. The Pecos river became part of Korber when I owned it. These modern TT line parts are great. Forum member laid off sick made a very nice version for his layout using these parts.

I checked it out and that korber is nice but at 39" long and 9" tall its way to big for what i am looking for.

The great thing about that series of kit is that it is actually made up of a number of modules. The modules are about 2" wide , so you can make the kit to any length or width you want. In addition there are two heights of the modules, that kit has the taller ones, but there is a set that is shorter
Here is a image that has all the modules in the series. You could figure out which ones you need and call Korber Models and they would sell you the combination you need. They also have the injection molded window and door inserts if you need them. The large opening for the trains are made using the short 3" modules at the top.
The simplest way to make the roof is styrene, or cut 1/8" Masonite you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes, or use black Foam Core you can buy at Hobby Lobby or the like. The foam core is the simplest and easy to cut, but does not deal well with water so be careful if you like to glue fine ballast to the roof of your models to simulate roofing granules using white glue.
This is a top view of the model that shows the number of modules used. You can see from this how it can simply be shortened to accommodate a different space.
Here are some other photos showing what you can do with these modules.
Here is how the modules glue together to make the walls - note the bracing on the backs for support, and a small lip on the inside to hold the roof just below the top of the walls
Here is a foam core piece being installed for the roof
All the roof top vents and AC units/ heat exchanges are also available from Korber.

Berkshire Valley used to make this kit. Do not know if it is still available. I have one on my shelf of kits to build!

As Rich stated (Thank you Rich) I built one from the Pecos modular kits. I needed something big that I could fit in a large space and hold a few engines.
Wow thanks guys for all the replies. Lots of ideas thrown around. The Korber is sure interesting as you can custom make to your needs. I will come back to this thread with updates on a regular basis. I have seen in the past on this forum of members posting there engine sheds and facilities so this should be helpful for others in the future!

I am really surprised that one of the O scale manufacturers has not made a small 1 or 2 stall engine house yet. About anything available has been huge and will overpower a small layout. One of the OGR members was going to do a small engine house a couple of years ago, but I never heard anything more about it on here. I think it is a missed opportunity.

Hi Donald. I always liked how you added some nice finishing touches to your Diesel Facility, great job.
Just so everyone knows, Ive had several requests over the last year for this facility and have decided to bring it back, however w several changes, improvements, and options. It will offered in kit form only, unpainted, and painted, similarly as I offer the train sheds. Assembled was always a bear to ship due to all of the intricate parts. That's the problem. All available are to big. I remember someone had a post about the engine house also and never updated on progress

I was stubborn and started working on the facility. I used thick ABS sheet I acquired from my job and cut with plastic small saw blade. I ordered some more stock tubing from plastruct as I ran out. I will keep all updated if interested on this post.

Yes, I built that out of sign board. I have made stuff for the inside like fueling rigs and never finished putting them inside.
I'm still refining my custom design for my RR. I have a PRR S-1 and a C&O H-8 Allegheny which requires a 40" engine house. After toying with doing it in brick, the laser cutting costs were getting to high so I changed to "concrete". Right now I'm working with a vendor to get an estimate. Window cutting is $50. Building the trusses if I want them look scale with probably top $100.
I'm restrained from using any commercial product since I'm stuck with 3.5" track spacing resulting from using a ladder of Ross #4 switches. It's a feature (not a bug) that the Ross #4s ladder to a perfectly spaced yard system. It's just a little tight for engine houses.
I took the building and exploded it in SketchUp to show the construction scheme. The outer buttresses are simply laser cut strips. The inner buttresses need to support the gantry I-beam and the roof trusses, therefore, they are more complex. I'll probably start with the same strips and then add some 3/4" square shapes to build up the bulk. Even buying the trusses from Plastruct would cost a lot of money. I'm trying to keep this project reasonable. The gantry crane will be scratch-built also.
When I actually get under construction on this (probably in a couple of months), I'll be posting it in detail under my regular 7 year build thread.
The design could easily be scaled shorter and it doesn't need the machine shop adjunct. So… if anyone would want a smaller version design for laser cutting, send me a private eMail.

There's a kit coming out from Proses. They normally service the European market in H.O. and OO with some N and some O. I've seen the photos and operation of the prototype (the doors are electrically operated. Several of us on the American O-Scale in the UK group have been providing some input in the design. I'm buying one when they're released even though I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to do with it. It will be modular so you can increase the length. I believe he said the unit was going to be 60cm long by 30cm wide. I've done business with this company on eBay and they make some interesting stuff. Don't know what the pricing will ultimately be. According to the designer, it will come with lighting as well as the operating doors. The trim brick will be laser-etched card, but I don't know what the wall material will be. The thread is getting a lot of traffic.

JPV… very nice design. I wish I had the track clearance to put work platforms between them. I can build a platform, but it's so narrow as to be unworkable. This is a good thread!
