When modern era Lionel reproduced the Heliport, I purchased one, along with a few spare helicopters. The helicopters were purchased directly from the Lionel parts department.
The other day I noticed that I have two different style helicopters. Several have a separate tail rotor assembly, like a 3419 helicopter, and several have the tail rotor assembly cast as part of the body. I think the original postwar 419 helicopter came that way. Both are approximately the same size.
Does anybody know the story behind them? Were they made from original postwar molds? Any reason for the change?
Maybe PaperTRW knows.
