MODIFYING THE ATLAS TRAINMAN 2-STORY HOUSE KIT

The Atlas Item 2009002 Two-Story House Kit is a basic plastic structure which can be heavily modified and repainted to create a "Railroad Office Building and Station".

The basic kit includes a 2-story structure with a porch around 2 sides of the building. There are doors on the front and back of the building.

Planned Modifications:

1. Make a new base which will be raised to track level and include a ramp.

2. Place the platform side toward the track

3. Place the porch streetside.

4. Modify and paint the railings along the porch.

5. Repaint the windows and shutters.

6. Repaint the walls (inside and out).
7. Modify and paint the chimney. Extend the chimney also to the first floor.

8. Add interior walls and a second floor.

9. Add LED interior lighting.

10. Paint the main roof.

11. Paint the porch roof.

That ought to be a fun project. Its a good basic structure but certainly could do with some customization and added detail.

I'm curious as to why you would move the wraparound porch to the rear of the structure. The wraparound front porch as presented is typical of houses from that era.

Or are you only going to model a back porch without wrapping it around the side?

This "house' will be converted to a railroad office and small station stop. The "new" front of the building will have a platform that will be adjacent to the track (trackside). The existing porch will be at the entrance to the "railroad offices" on the street side.

This "house' will be converted to a railroad office and small station stop. The "new" front of the building will have a platform that will be adjacent to the track (trackside).

A cardboard mockup of the platform is shown. The final platform will be at the same height as the track. The opposite side will now have steps down to street level. A ramp will also be built to street level (not shown).

This is an MTH country house I modified into a B&O YMCA. It’s now on the FCTT layout. I added a side porch leftover from a previous project. The dormers are from an Ameritown kit, and the foundation stone is a vinyl selfstick material from Chooch enterprises.
One detail most people miss when repainting a Plastic building is they fail to paint the underside of the eaves the same color of the siding or a contrasting trim color.
