Modifying the RailKing 30-7316 Texaco tankcar.

This RaiKing model although scaled typically  for O-27 operation is representative of very early versions of the tank car. The model lacks any brake gear details and steps.

The "new date" imprinted on the car is 11-35. The Texaco brand lettering is very attractive.

Note: The roller bearing style trucks provided with this RailKing model will be replaced with Bettendorf style trucks which better match the types used on these early tank car versions. Brake gear castings similar to those produced by the Back Shop in O could also be added to the underframe.

Early history of the Texas Company (Texaco).

At the dawn of the 20th century, discovery of oil in southeast Texas transformed the area and gave birth to The Texas Co., later Texaco, which quickly grew into a major international petroleum company. Highlighting the company's first decade were significant discoveries, the entry into new markets, and development of new products from kerosene to automotive gasoline and lubricants. Texaco was an independent company until its refining operations merged into Chevron Corporation in 2001.  Thus the Texaco brand is no more.

Looking for prototype photos typical of this type of tank car.
