The Williams by Bachmann coal dump car is a pleasure to watch. However, small pieces of coal get stuck in the hinged part of the moving side wall. The reason they get stuck is because the side is hinged at the ends only. The rest of the hinges along the bottom portion are merely decorative, so when it is dumping coal, a small piece of coal may get caught as the side is flexible and bows out, allowing debris to get caught. Then when the bin goes back down, the side doesn't close all the way.
I was experimenting with ways to prevent this from happening. I took the back cover from a notebook, the thin plastic type, and cut it to fit inside of the bin. My first try was a piece that was about as tall as the side of the car. I taped it in place, putting the tape on the bottom of the bin so that when the car is dumping the plastic piece moves against the moving side of the car. The only problem with this method was that the tape is a bit too stiff, so the bin will not fully come back down all the way.
My next solution was to cut a piece about 2 5/8" wide and place it in the bin. It rests on a slope. This may be the better solution. However, it needs to be attached at the non-hinged side of the car. Other than some sort of tape, what else can I use that would be flexible ?
