My grandson and I did a ride yesterday. It was overcast and cold in the high 50's. There has been a lot of interest lately in something called Colony Collapse Disorder effecting the honey bees. I had taken pictures of a hive that was in the McDonald Viaduct on the Montour, so our ride yesterday was to see if they were still there. On a cold day there was activity, hopefully as it warms there will be more. It has always amazed me that the bees/beehive survive/s the winter in the bridge structure, it must be a fairly large hive.
Picture yesterday. Micah (Grandson) did 20+ miles on the trail yesterday, well on his way to his Cycling Merit Badge, (hopefully by the end of the summer). We may also work on the Railroading Merit Badge.
Picture last fall.
Viaduct from the Panhandle Trail Connector.
I added a few pictures from yesterday. Oct 13, 2013.
The bees are still there. Note the wild grapes.
