I had a number of questions in the various threads and some e-mails about where I found the figures for my trailer park scene, such as the perp with his hands cuffed behind his back, the cop with his gun out, and the babes working the seedy motel - in particular, the babe I call Veranda Turbine.
They are all standard Woodland Scenics, Model Power, MTH, and Life-Like figures. There may be some Lionel in there but I doubt it - I don't use to many Lionel figures. But regardless, nearly all had surgery to move arms or legs or heads and even occasionally to switch torsos, etc., so they fit just so. I make big use of white/yellow wood glue to fill cracks, applying it with the tip of a needle or #11 blade to fill seams where I have cut and left a gap, etc. It also works well to build up figures - several coats applied to the arms of a scrawny guy makes his into a muscle man, or to the head of a woman gives her a beehive hair style, etc. I make big use of that.
First up:the babe: Veranda Turbine. She came from MTH Railking figure set # 12 set 1, 30-11074. This is by far the most voluptuous figure I have found in all O-gauge figure-dom. She has the, uh . . . largest front porch I have seen, so it is quite appropriate for her to be named Veranda. As supplied she is in a bikini. I cut out two small rectangles of paper and glued them on her as sort of loincloths front and back, then "painted" her entire skirt area with white glue, let surface tension hide the seams, and then re-painted her. The guy is a stock Woodland Scenics guy, I think, not sure from what set. By the way, there is a lot of story there about Veranda, but that is form another day.
Next up, the other babes. Left, from Woodland Scenics newstand set, unmodified. The two center figures are unpainted JTT figures painted appropriately. I've found that generally JTT figures, male and female, resemble fashion models in shape and size. the figure on the right is from Woodland Scenincs pedestrian set, I trimmed her skirt shorter and exposed a light bit more bosom, carving lightly with a #11 Xacto knife, then built up her hair bigger by just painting on yellow glue over her existing hair to build it up more prominently. Then it was just painting her in appropriate colors.
Both perps come from the Woodland Scenics set "Shootin Hoops. For the guy in handcuffs, I did major surgery - cut and glue, on the one to move his arms around behind his back and move one leg (note the rip in his jeans near the knee). The guy with his hands raised in arrest is a guy blocking a shot with his hands, which are not modified, however, I cut him at the wait and glued on a different lower body. The pistol is just a tiny piece of then styrene, glued and painted.
All four cops are from a Woodland scenic police set. Every one is modified slightly. For the sheriff, I cut off the top of his head and cutom made his hat, and move the arm (and removed the donut!). the guy with the shotgun waqs most difficult - I had to both move both arms and position them with the shotgun (a big splinter of wood trimmed just right) and cut his head and turn it around, (and remove the whistle in his lips).
