The Beverage. As far as accessories go....this is my favorite. I find it valuable as it has a multiplier effect on the enjoyment of running trains. It comes in many "liveries" and switches out easily if you need a replacement.
If there is a problem with the layout, beverages seem to make it go away
Interesting question with a variety of answers. I had to think about my response for a while, but I'd have to say it is the vignettes, inclusive of the figures, autos and scenic items. I can't say it's the track appearance, because I run 027. I can't say it's the buildings, because they are almost all Plasticville or Marx. The vignettes.
Interesting question. I suppose from an operational standpoint it has to be good reliable track work and smooth operating switches because without those forget about enjoying the operation of trains. Secondarily, I would have to say well tuned operating signals and accessories because they are the icing on the cake.
