A very Merry Christmas to everyone!  I recently purchased an AHM Kit of the famous Casey Jones 4-6-0.  Turns out it is a 'kissin' cousin' to Great Northern's E class steam.  I am researching now for the parts I need to make it into this particular E class Ten-Wheeler.  The kit I bought includes the "motor kit" so I have the all the parts necessary to turn it into an operating locomotive.  I'm particularly looking for anyone who has modernized this kit with a NWSL (or similar) motor.  I need to install a fly-wheel also for smooth operation.  Many thanks in advance for any and all who have done this.

Did this many years ago; gearbox and motor from NWSL and I'm surely not alone in that effort.

Got the biggest motor that would fit in the boiler since there's little room in the cab and I did not want to open up the boiler - working from an assembled body and retrofitting.  Motor ended up in the boiler which actually worked well putting a little weight over the drivers.  I do not recall adding a flywheel but surely possible.

I would like to know if there is a set of 3 rail drivers and frame that could be used for this kit.

Years ago there was Locomotive Workshop and Jan would make these up.  Nothing available now other than what you make for yourself.

The drivers with the motorizing kit are actually high rail drivers as are the rest of the wheel sets.  Short of finding one of these kits (I think they are getting harder to find) You would probably be wise to buy from a supply house.  Also, I do most of my big item shopping at Stockyard Express in Oberlin, Ohio and their repair technician, Brian, is a bloody genius.  I was describing the situation to him concerning rollers and he thinks it can be done with one under the loco and one on the tender.

Good Luck

This is a scale model. It required pilot mods for me to even use it on 0-36 Super O. The tender draw bar had to be longer for the 0-36 and smaller too.

The stock dc motor is actually pretty good and it just got a bridge rectifier for ac...one direction only. It creeps very well, and has a low top end.  It's limiter is weight vs traction. The pulling is about equal to a General. It handles 15v all day and has become one of my all time favs.

After the mod. I can run on 0-31 tubular fairly well considering the flanges. (which are small, but over scale. Not a bad comprimise really). O-27 is too iffy, but it can sort of manage if you keep a sharp eye and run a light load.

I tied the isolated drivers pickups together, and used a GG-1 roller bolted to the gearbox cover.

There is a thread about a year or more old, requesting instructions for another Rivarossi model. I tacked on my build there as I went along. (I am not O.P. there. But there are so few Rivarossi threads I figured the more info in one spot the better). (search 382 + instructions + Rivarossi + IC + Casey, etc.)   Let me know if you fail to find it.

I forget his avitar name offhand (again ) but Capt.John of the Northern Michigan club, Captain of the EPA Great Lakes ship used a Lionel can motor on one after his cooked (actually I think maybe there were two motors used..?). I don't recall the particulars, he did not do a thread, only mentioned it. (waiting for him to be be in port near home for answers may take time too )

I have some extra parts and an extra full wheel set for it, so if in need, don't be afraid to drop me an email. (this applies to anyone, anytime, any reason, fyi)

Carefully ID all your screws before you start, or be screwed
