MR Hiawatha 'lurching' forward?

I had this issue last night while testing clearances with my big boy, seems that the tender draw bar plug was not seated properly. Took me 4 tries to finally get it. It really is a 2 handed operation from both sides

How old is this unit?  Does it use the wired tether?  Could be an intermittent tether connection, bad wire in tether, or issue with loose or bad wire at the tach.  Could also be a dirty tach stripe.

Should be easy to open and inspect.  G

He'll bring it over Tuesday evening to the clubhouse and we'll try to seat the tether again. 

It's an older PS2 unit (don't know the model #) that his wife bought for him last year at a show. I'll check the mileage and hours too if I think of it.

I really appreciate the advice suggested here fellas - Will forward this thread over to Ed and hopefully, he'll remember to bring the locomotive next week for a look-see.

It didn't cut out that I could tell, just would speed up momentarily and then back to normal. Am hoping its just reseating the plug. He has had it running on several occasions without incident...
