Received a e-mail from Micro Mark this morning advertising the above transformer for $249.95. Reg. price $289.95. Sorry, I don't know if this is a good price or not. Their e-mail contain other items you may be interested in.

Jim,
Your pictures are not coming thru again!
Dave
Sorry Dave. I do not know why. Its pictured on my computer when I bring up the forum.
No pics here either. Happens consistently and very often on this forum. ONLY site where I have this problem.
Jim,
$250 is a good price, as many folks are currently selling the MRC dual for $290.
I have had one on my layout for the past 7 - 8 years and like is so much that I bought another at a live auction as a back-up transformer.
Jim
Jim,
I received an email from them earlier today, I've yet to open it. Dave is correct, your photos are blank.

I have used my MRC 270 watt transformer for several years. It works great with my new Lion Chief Plus Hudson. The price has increased over the years, but it seems reasonable.
I have two nice ZW's sitting on a shelf, but I'm not sure about using them with modern locomotives. Any advice?

Assuming your pw ZWs are in good condition[cord, rollers, binding posts, etc,] you can protect them as well as the wire runs from overcurrent surges by adding external breakers or fuses. You could connect a 7 amp breaker on the Hot conductors, for example, from the main railpower throttles A and D.
You can protect your modern electronic engines from voltage spikes by connecting Transient Voltage Supressors [TVS]to each power district. TVS are cheap--about $.50 each and easy to connect. Circuit Breakers/Fuses will not protect against voltage spikes which are the electronic circuit board killer--voltage spikes will not trip a breaker like a short and current surge will. You need the TVS to clamp the spike.
Photos below show 3 TVS as shipped from Mouser Electronics and one configured to connect the A and U posts on a pw ZW. Breakers are under $5.00--typical from Mouser shown[10 amp].
I purchased one a couple of York's ago from Nicholas Smith for $250, which seems t be the going price.
Jim: Open Jim's Train Shop again and you can sell them for $229.99
Here's a pic. That is an excellent price...

I have this MRC dual power that I run along w/ a Z4000. The MRC is a very affordable workhorse.
