Guys I have two MTH photo 1 engines . I have put BCRs in both. They only move intermittently . Any clue as to what might be wrong? One of the engines was almost in new condition as the owner only test ran it.

The first thing I would look at is lubrication. Just remember how hold these engines are and they have not been run much there is a good chance they are in need of some fresh grease and oil. That's where I would start.
Because of their age I would agree the grease could be hard those engines were built in the 90'S, also does the engine draw excessive current when you power them up, you want to set the ac to approximately 10 volts, then you hear the startup sound usually 2 dings! after the 2 dings you can change direction with the direction but if you're using the Z4000 MTH transformer! Also if its's jerky or the engine stalls you should clean the engine wheels and track with a cleaner!

I bought a Williams engine recently that wouldn't budge. The grease had hardened and the truck drive wheels had to be loosened up hand, working the wheels back and forth.
