I have a vintage MTH 20-2222-3 Milwaukee Road powered DL-110. When track-tested, the locomotive provides smoke from one exhaust. The locomotive does not run. The instructions say there is a DCRU lock-out switch, however there is no lock-out switch on this unit (no evidence there was ever one factory installed). Several questions: is a powered DL-109 required to operate the DL-110?, also did these units have one or two smoke units? There are two exhausts, but smoke fluid can be added to only one exhaust. I have queried MTH repeatedly, but no response. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Pat,
I have one as well, you must have the A unit for it to operate. I would have to get it out to be sure, but I believe smoke exhaust is only out of one - I think the other is the steam generator which has none.

Actually, there are two exhaust stacks, as the prototype had two engines. I can't comment on whether MTH had installed smoke capability from both exhaust stacks.
According to parts diagram on mth website of 20-2222-3 there is 1 smoke unit which connects to the stack above it only no other stack connected to it. Has twin motors but just a reverse board no other board.
Also has the plug harness to connect to lead unit.
Thanks for the information.
Unit does have the plug harness installed.
Am I correct in assuming that the DL-110 requires the DL-109 to operate?

I have a similar vintage DL109/110 in Santa Fe livery. The 110 B unit will not run by itself. It needs to be connected to the DL109 A unit for running.
