I'm considering this loco, as the livery and detail are fascinating. Anyone here have any opinions about it's operation and reliability?

What exactly is a “2-3-1 Pacific”?? The proper term is a 4-6-2 Pacific. The Whyte Notation for a locomotive is the lead truck (pony truck) by counting all the wheels (both sides), the drivers (middle powered wheels) as the middle number, and the trailing truck (rear truck) as the third number.

There are also a lot of MTH Renditions. Photos and/or the model number will help tell what locomotive you are referring to. I can name atleast 6-7 different Pacifica that MTH has made in the past 5-6 years. Let alone the 30-40 they’ve made since they were formed.
In Europe wheel arrangements count only the wheels on one side, not both. Sorry can't help with details.

The engine I was referring to is the European "Orient Express" Chapelon Pacific, and yes, they count axles not wheels over there. I was just curious if anyone here has operated one.
I have a similar one, not the Orient Express version though. I installed a BCR2 and tested it, but I have not run it on a layout yet.
Detail and construction are exceptional. Nice weight and typical MTH reliability.
And yes, the French and Germans used the UIC wheel notation system, not the Whyte system... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_arrangement

Hello all. A little late on this thread but I am looking for an MTH Chapelon. I happen to have several car sets for this. I do have a 2 rails scale wheel set I will be parting with as I have the duplicate 3 wheel hi rail variant. Anyway, I am looking for some European engines; both the Mikado and Chapelon if any have grown tired and need to thing your herd please let me know.
