So, MTH announced around a year ago that it was going to finally incorporate a steam whistle into its steamers - in about a year. Great news for those of us who like MTH and steam effects! Well, it seems like it's been a year or maybe more. Any word yet? I entered the hobby almost 3 years ago and was a total MTH fan thinking they were the innovator. Bought purely MTH - till I saw Lionel offered steam whistle, cylinder steam, blow down effects, etc. Since then, despite wanting several MTH offerings, I have given Lionel all my business. More features. similar quality. Wondering if anyone knows the status of the MTH steam whistle?

And you believed them .
I also have been buying Lionel engines because they are innovative and on the cutting edge with trains that look like trains that run in the Americas.

Something like York 2007 or 2008 it was announced - before Lionel. Some G Gauge engines came with the smoking whistle, no O Gauge engines that I know of. Best to contact MTH for info/update. I would think with the smaller PS3 boards, they are getting closer to offering it.
I don't think MTH is interested in putting much new R&D into O these days. Maybe the next catalog will prove me wrong, but talking with them at the shows, seeing the last few catalogs and the cancellations, and seeing how much effort they are putting into HO gives me little hope.
