Exactly. I was ready for some 2R steam, but nothing. AND they continue to make diesel's with Proto 3/2 trucks and Proto 3 electronics, but no fixed pilots or correct length handrails. I will continue to support Scott Mann. He is making models a lot closer to what I want even if they are more expensive.
Don't the 2 rail version come with fix pilots? The F7 for a ABA is 800 bucks give or take. Not many of us who can afford a F3 ABA at 2000.00 from 3rdrail
I am thinking about the RK Alco PA AA in Santa Fe gold livery. Definitely the Canfor plug door boxcar. Going to be an all-Alco year coming up, as I ordered the Lionel Alco FA AA sets in both SP&S and Demonstrator liveries. Plus I have. SP&S RK RS-3 on the way already.

@Hudson J1e The Premier 0-8-0 lists Proto 3-2 convertibility as a feature, but I'll bet this is a misprint. As you stated, there are no -2 product numbers, and as far as I know this is a "captive axle" toy train chassis where the wheels and axles are not removable .
And what's up with page 82? Did they go through the Product Locator and just re-catalog a bunch of stuff that's languishing in inventory?
Eventually all of this old tooling is going to be worn out. Maybe then we'll see new products or meaningful mechanical improvements. Until then I guess I'm on the sidelines

I'd have to guess that not making any new 2 rail steamers was a business decision. They continue to make the diesels luckily. I can only wonder what the sales numbers are really like in each category.
I pre-ordered the Premier G. W. B. 4141 in two-rail plus the proper baggage car which I will have to convert.

I saw many of those in downtown LA in the eighties sometimes doubled up, and you say MTH never did one. I would be understandingly upset also. nice job on the painting BTW.

The color is the least of the problems with this engine. The prototype started out life as an SD70M not a 70Mac. So, most of the long hood still resembles a 70M not a 70Mac. It now sports a cab nose and an AC inverter box that more closely resembles an SD70Ace. This offering screams of no effort. None.
Which leaves me asking yet again, why no SD70M? Never released in PS3. Just saying.
I am happy to see the return of the CP Holiday Train in Premier. Thank you MTH.
I also like the “stainless plating” that they do.
The Premier steam section leads me to believe they are trying to burn through existing inventory, as most (or all?) is available today. The Premier steam is very nice.
So for me, the CP Holiday Train box car set, C&NW AC4400 and maybe the SD40-2 in BNSF patch.
I give this catalog a C grade. I hope everything is okay at MTH.
I like the 1776 Premier Line Pennsylvania GG-!. Thinking about purchasing that locomotive.
I heard a rumor that MTH was supposed to introduce a Lehigh Valley "Wyoming", but canceled plans at the last minute.
Had anyone else heard this?

Looks like I will just be getting a couple diesels: the RK Scale C630 in Lehigh Valley and the Premier VO-1000 in Burlington.
If you can believe Lionel (no reason not to in this regard, I don't think), these seem to sell really well. If they were total turkeys in terms of sales numbers, they wouldn't keep doing it.
Why would you want to stop MTH from producing something that might sell very well and then possibly contribute to the bottom line that might fund other products being made?

Sorry, can't afford the cost of two cars to make one and then attempt to match the factory paint. They would have had me and many others if they'd have tooled it up from the beginning!

I really don't think we're going to see much in the way of new tooling in the O gauge market. The return on investment just isn't there IMHO.
Lionel is pretty good about new tooling on stuff. The passenger car department has been great the last few years, several new freight cars over the years too.
One issue with locomotives is MTH did a bunch of obscure ones a while back such as the Baldwin transfer diesel and all the electrics. There's only so many people that want these and so many road names to do them in. Then both manufacturers did the SD60E which only applies to NS. Surely we'll soon see a Tier IV GEVO from one of them, but until then my wallet is safe.

The Lionel excursion set offered early last year is a more correct consist than the one MTH is offering, plus they're a full 85 feet each (the theater car is a lot of laughs). I'm slowly reaching the saturation point on my train roster.

Yellow paint and markings always seem to be much darker in the Premier line images than on the real locos and cars.

If there's something you definitely want and believe MTH can and should make, use the product suggestion form on their website... Andy Edelman said on Notch 6 they read those suggestions regularly.
I was quite happy to see a re-issue of the Western Maryland Imperial Challenger in Proto 3.0. I have the Proto 2.0 version of this train and love it. They also used a different engine number #1204 which is great. I have both of the scale versions of the WM Challenger, #1203 and #1208 and love them all.

I like these comments... Soon there will be a nice used Western Maryland Imperial Challenger for sale that can be bought for less than new!
S.O.Sh. nothing new, more cookies and no must haves but I will probably buy these two diesels as lash up helpers to the existing collection.
Looks like the MTH VP's are more focused on a close retirement like Weaver Joe.
Just wish MTH would provide the correct RS-3 dual head lamps like Lionel offers going forward.
Guess I will have to paint over those modern yellow dashes along the deck. CNJ never had those.

As with any MTH catalog, there will be those who like the items and will buy, and those who don’t find anything new or interesting.
I saw a few locos and cars that I want. Budget will keep me limited though. I will get the NS SD70MAC. It’s not the prototype, but it goes with the GE units I have. I don’t see MTH doing a new tooling for this one, so I will settle.
I want new steam. Last Notch 6 podcast from MTH said they were trying to clear out old steam before they possibly release a new model or two.
I also want a new GE ET44AC - actually a few so I have my fingers crossed. So many possibilities there. They need to make that.
Had the ALCo PA/PB-1 been offered in "scale wheel" version, I would have bitten. They've done such a great job on the EMD F3s, why not the Es and the ALCos? I'll keep waiting till they do....
